Comment on current proposed revisions to the By-laws
To be very clear: the Advisory Council of Organizations do not have
representatives "making decisions on the structure ofthe bylaws." They are
not "collecting feedback" if you mean that to mean collecting feedback in
general. Specifically, they are providing feedback from Organization
members. As I pointed out in my report, we have had 19 comments (some
duplicative or +1's) from Chapter leaders since we put out a final call for
comments. If I did not say it before, thank you all for getting your
comments in writing and on time to the Bylaws Committee!
The final call for comments produced zero comments on the AC list, zero
comments on the bylaws list, and zero comments communicated to the Board by
Organization Members. The hope is we can extract some useful feedback.
If anything, this highlights how much better Chapters are at communicating
with ISOC in general and the Board in particular than Organizations. Through
both your active participation and the active work of staff, the needs and
desires of Chapters are well-known and well-articulated. That is not so for
Organizations. Organizations do not have the structural relationship that
Chapters do with the Society, nor do they have the staff and regional
support that Chapters do.
By the same token, we do listen. You should see a message shortly from Ted
requesting direct participation from the Chapter community to the Bylaws
Committee. Settling expectations: like the people participating from the
Organization community, these individuals will neither make decisions on the
bylaws nor be voting on changes. They will be helping with feedback as well
as giving advice from their own Chapter experience to the Bylaws Committee.

I would suggest that there is a difference between having two
representatives of the Chapters on the Committee making decisions on the
structure ofthe bylaws and collecting feedback.

It sounds strange that the org members need Addiitional people, and the
chapters don't get any. Yet the org members have already 6 trustees,
right?
The intention of this is to collect feedback at all - in contrast to the
chapters, who have posted extensively, on and off lists, and given plenty
of feedback.
