I think it is ok that Genes spoke to them to alert them of the issue, so
that they have time to prepare an alternative to the name of their
conference.
I think a phone call was in order, to establish a friendly dialogue. A
note on letterhead may be too formal and not encourage them to comply
quickly, especially as I'm still not sure if Internet Society is an
enforceable registered trade mark.
I would even propose for ISOC to sponsor (as a token) the conference
(enough to pay a tea break but not more), if they immediately change the
name and add the Internet Society logo on their publications. However
someone needs to see that they abide to ISOC goals, but at first sight,
it seems so. It would serve the purpose of having all the participants
learning about ISOC quickly.
