[ih] Help Identifying 1985 NIC

I haven't watched the video but I would think it would be the SRI NIC.  The date from Wikipedia when the contract ended sounds about right.  JJ Garcia-Luna-Aceves at UC Santa Cruz could tell you.  He was heavily involved with the last proposal effort for the NIC  at SRI.  Even though he was at SRI in 1985,  I am pretty sure JJ hadn't moved to the NIC yet.  I think Jake Feinler was still running things.  Ole Jacobsen could also probably fill you about the 1985 time period.  I am pretty sure he was part of the NIC during that time period.

A quick grep finds the first mention of 172.12 and 192.168 in RFC
1597.  Nothing before that.

Hall of Fame Ceremony.

global IP addresses from ?? sounds like ASI NIC?

Presumably, ISI NIC. That's what there was in 1985.

or https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc990
The CERN class Bs, which I expected to find in the 1985 list,
only appeared in 1986. I didn't find JUNET in either list.

After RFC990, IP address assignments were no longer recorded
in the Assigned Numbers RFCs.

I don't remember the activities at ISI ever having been referred to as
a Network Information Center, though.  When did the SRI NIC end?

True enough, but I don't see how 'SRI' could be misheard as 'ASI'.

I listened to the video, and to me it?s fairly clear he said SRI NIC.  To find out for sure, suggest you contact Shigeki Goto directly.
