Interestingly, this CTCP stuff still got attention in 2013:

http://www.digitalairwireless.com/wireless-blog/recent/increasing-real-world-bandwidth.html

What is most ludicrous here is the headline:

Increasing real world bandwidth - Coded TCP

The "bandwidth" of a wireless channel is a well defined physical
constant and cannot be "increased" by channel coding.
(That we "re-defined", more precisely "ill-defined" this term in the CS
world is our fault and not the rest of the world's problem.)

Another basic insight in wireless networks is, and it took me some time
to accept this myself, the fundamental most basic general theorem on
wireless networking: "You cannot make a silk purse from a sows ear." And
where ever it seems we made such a silk purse, we should carefully check
where we got the hidden Lota Bowl or where we pulled our own leg ;-)
