   In Standage's "Victorian Internet", there's a nice chapter on a pair 
of telegraphers falling in love and marrying.  If memory serves, they 
first met (physically) on the day of their wedding.
   This may or may not be what Vincent had in mind, but it was 
definitely pre-Minitel. ;-)
