For cost comparisons over time, it is helpful to adjust for inflation. For the years 1913-2009, monthly data can be found at ftp://ftp.bls.gov/pub/special.requests/cpi/cpiai.txt For a sense of the differences, a dollar spent in 1985 is equivalent to $2 today, and a dollar spent in 1969 is about $6 today. -- Jonathan
