Dear Christine,

Thank you very much for sharing these useful updates ahead of IETF 126.

In addition to the IETF Policymakers Program, I wonder whether it could
also be useful to briefly mention the IRTF Diversity Travel Grants in the
“IETF Ornithology” document, particularly under Part 2 on the IRTF.

This initiative is another important illustration of how the IETF/IRTF
ecosystem encourages broader participation, not only from policymakers, but
also from the academic and research communities. By supporting early-career
academics, PhD students, and researchers from under-represented groups to
attend IRTF meetings co-located with the IETF, the Diversity Travel Grants
help strengthen the link between open Internet standards, academic
research, and inclusive participation in the technical community.

Based on my own experience after participating in the IETF Policymakers
Program, I have seen how such support mechanisms can help sustain
engagement with the IETF/IRTF ecosystem beyond an initial policy-oriented
participation, especially for participants from under-represented regions.

Highlighting this aspect could help Chapters better showcase the IETF/IRTF
ecosystem as a space that supports policy engagement, research
participation, and diversity in Internet standards discussions.

A possible short addition could be:

“IRTF Diversity Travel Grants: The IRTF Diversity Travel Grants contribute
to broadening participation in Internet research by supporting early-career
academics, PhD students, and researchers from under-represented groups to
attend IRTF meetings co-located with the IETF. Together with related
participation support mechanisms, such as IRTF fee waivers for research
group meetings and workshops, this initiative provides another important
pathway for connecting academic research, diversity, and participation in
the open Internet standards ecosystem.”

Many thanks again for the update, and wishing everyone attending IETF 126 a
very productive meeting.

Best regards,

Karim
