Hello Sheikh,
Having gotten the feedback from Madam Amrita and as I also have experience
in organising similar events, I think some of your requests and thinking
because you are the Vice President of your chapter you deserve anything you
want is out of place. Personally, I think you were really demanding too
much from the inSIG organisers. Please see my comments below:
1. As InSIG is an independent event, but the main organizer was the
Bengaluru chapter this time, since you mentioned that inSIG has its own
rules, can you please share a link as a reference so that we can read these
inSIG rules.
You joined as VP just few months ago, and as madam Amrita mentioned the
planning takes 7-8 months. So I am sure a lot has already being done before
you took office just few months ago. Being the main chapter organising the
event, please share with us the *rules that say the President and Vice must
be there in the event!*
2. I can understand that inSIG is a closed event, that is the reason I
also already applied through a proper procedure, may I know on what basis
my application got rejected or at least what is the criteria or procedure
you follow to select attendees.
As I mentioned I organize similar events and when people don’t get selected
they get disappointed. The fact is not everyone can be selected as there
are limited spots. Kindly just note that being a VP doesn’t mean anything
you THINK you are entitled to is rightfully so. By the way, from the way you
sound, did you take up the role of the VP because you thought all these
opportunities you are claiming for and are not coming were at the beckon
call of a selected VP?
3. I have been an active member that is one of the reasons for me being
elected as a VP; moreover, I have already conducted few events and always
involved myself in discussions and planning towards this event.
Being an active member could be a reason to be selected as a VP but bear in
mind there could be other active members who might not want to be an
executive, hence they did not get selected as a VP. Moreover, having
conducted few events and being active does not necessarily mean you MUST be
given a slot. Kindly just bear in mind that there are others who actually
also have the experience required but not everyone could be given a slot to
speak.
4. The main reason for electing someone as a chapter leader is because he
has been actively engaged and deserves to be a part of the committee.
Please show us your chapter and the inSIG rules and regulations that
indicates that an elected chapter executive MUST be in a committee even if
the organisers do not think so.
5. Since you mentioned Dr Govind as an active member and not the chapter
leader, then he should have been elected as a VP by the Bengaluru chapter
members, but they thought that my contribution is more.
What if Dr Govind is not interested in being elected as an executive? If he
is not, he will not be given the role. Being elected a VP doesn’t mean you
can do the work given to Dr Govind better than him.
6. While going through past inSIG events, I feel only few new faces are
given a chance as there are some people who have managed to be a part of
most of the previous events.
I agree with you, giving room to deserving new people is needed to build
their capacity.
7. Just to clarify, I didn't come at the last moment to be included as a
speaker or an organizer for this event, it's being miscommunicated to you.
Being a VP, when I came to know that I was not allowed to attend this event
conducted by the Benguluru chapter, I gave them an option that they can use
me as a speaker where I can deliver free talks. Otherwise, I have been a
certified trainer for the last 10 years, being certified by Microsoft,
EC-Council, NSD, so I never deliver free talks anywhere. Indirectly I am
also being dis-serviced as I have always worked towards this event to get
it organized successfully
It appears to me that the role of the VP given you in just a few months
appears to you like a golden spoon and you deserve almost anything that you
want. Personally I see a bit of bride in your communications, which as a
leader I believe you should please not feel the kind of entitlement you are
claiming. Kindly relax and work within the laid down rules, and do not
expect the rules to be changed to satisfy you sir!
Furthermore, offering to give free talks where the programme is already
well designed in advance, what if they do not have an allocation for your
small talks? I am sure the organisers cannot just be forced to satisfy you.
8. if a speaker has an experience and is willing to speak free in your
future events (even if he is an elected member or a part of coordinating
committee), please give him a chance it can save at least save you some
funds especially if you have limited budget
There are plenty people who always come and asking to speak at events I
organize. I am sure others who also organize events will have similar
experience of such request. But my brother, it is not everyone who wants to
speak that can be given the opportunity, even if it is free.
9. Since I was elected as a VP of ISOC India Bengaluru Chapter on the basis
of being the most active member of the chapter, based on your logic I
should have been the first person selected to be a part of inSIG 2024.
Once more, I asked did you take up the VP role because you thought
everything you wanted as you are claiming several times would come at your
beckoning call?
I come in peace😊. Kindly note this is my personal opinion!
