Dear All,

As climate change worsens it is expected that such natural phenomena negative impact increases. I would suggest that chapters in the Caribbean, North East Atlantic, and North Pacific to organize a “summit” to review the degree of preparedness. Unfortunately, we can only provide aid before and after the emergency. Also ISOC resources are limited but it would be a great game changer if we have at least a risk map.

Thanks Sarah and Charles for the follow-up. We keep vigilant on the outcome at Jamaica and the aftermath in Dominicana, SVG, Barbados and so many islands already devastated.

If any chapter in the area is in need for ideas to restore communication capabilities I am happy -as well as many other ISOC members- to provide technical assistance.

Best Regards,

Luis

I don't know if this works or is the best approach, but in my mind if we can develop a standard suite of resilience support kits and reach out proactively to chapters in areas/countries that are often in risk of similar disasters, for future preparation, would that be a worthwhile program to start? Some chapters may know what they need to do, some may not. Or some chapters (NYC? Thanks Stuart for your input!) or several together may step up and apply for foundation funding to set up such kits and share/benefit others??

Chapters should submit their applications to the Foundation to develop such plans and reduce the impact. Thanks to you and Caleb for your efforts in letting the Foundation be aware of these needs.

It may be one thing worthwhile for us including myself and Caleb to check with the Foundation and staff about any such experience, so in this or future occurrences chapters and local communities can be more quickly offered assistance. This may become more useful as we face more extreme weather conditions all over the world from climate change.
