I have used S2 member in the past and found it to be overly complicated,
bloated and cumbersome.  I have also done similar things with WooCommerce,
groups and members and subscriptions plug ins.  However, right now I am in
the process of creating a complicated site that has content that is only
available to pre-authorized users and I am using Restricted Content Pro
with the Stripe and Paypal extensions and it is by far the most intuitive
and easiest to use membership plug in that I've worked with.  I haven't had
a chance to test it in real life yet, as the site is still being developed
but the testing I've done has me fairly convinced that it is going to be my
go-to for membership and restricted content on WP sites in the future.
