Dear Gonzalo,
Thanks for this. Indeed the fact that there are several lists has created some confusion.
As I understand it, posts to INTERNETSOCIETY-chapterleaderscommunity at ConnectedCommunity.org and to chapter-delegates at elists.isoc.org have the same effect. They go to the same people.
Posts to INTERNETSOCIETY-chapteradvisorycouncil at ConnectedCommunity.org go only to the members of the Chapters Advisory Council.
Since the Recommendations were submitted by the ChAC, I think that it would be procedurally correct to discuss them on that list.
However, in the interests of transparency, I would have no objection to including in CC the chapter-delegates at elists.isoc.org.
What do others think?
Best,
Richard

Hi Richard,
following up on my email below, please note that all trustees are
automatically subscribed to:
chapter-delegates at elists.isoc.org
Nevertheless, we are now discussing your recommendations at:
INTERNETSOCIETY-chapteradvisorycouncil at ConnectedCommunity.org
There are other chapters-related lists, such as:
INTERNETSOCIETY-chapterleaderscommunity at ConnectedCommunity.org
Where do you want to discuss this type of request in the future? Shall
we simply use the chapter delegates list so that all trustees are in the
loop as well and all discussions are more transparent to the community?
Please, advice. Thanks!
Cheers,
Gonzalo

Hi Richard,
thanks for your proposal to add a new section 13 to the bylaws. Per my
email to you and this same list earlier today regarding building and
declaring consensus within the ChAC, we agree that understanding the
"interest of ISOC as a whole" is extremely important. I am sure you will
find ways to engage the chapters community in the relevant discussions.
Again, if you need board support any any time, do not hesitate to reach out.
Please, note that all trustees are indeed automatically subscribed to
the mailing lists mentioned in the recommendation. In addition, as you
know, many trustees regularly attend IETF meetings, ICANN meetings, IGF
meetings, etc., where they interact with different parts of the ISOC
community. Also, the minutes of every board meeting have always
included, for every resolution, how each trustee voted on it.
Therefore, what you ask for in your recommendation seems to be already
in place. Whether a particular trustee is more or less active
communicating with a given community is a function of the trustee's own
personality, time constrains, working style, etc... and the communities
elect or select them as trustees based on those traits.
Also related to how trustees interact with the community, as you also
know, the board started organizing open forum sessions where the
community could talk directly to the board. The interest in those
sessions by the community have been underwhelming so far. As a result,
we have set up a team within the board to work on such sessions so that
we can make the best out of them. We believe they will be an additional
good channel for the community and the board to talk to each other.
Cheers,
Gonzalo
