[Chapter-delegates] Day-to-day funding

I support Eric's call for a the views and discussion on this list. While it will surprise no one to say that nothing will be done quickly, I would like to work with Chapter leaders to develop a long term support plan for the Internet Society that takes these needs and ideas into consideration, indeed as a foundation. I'm making no commitment that once a plan is developed it will be fully implemented. Such a decision is at the highest levels. However, without a proposal that is complete and well thought-out, the likely outcome is quite diminished. So I am collecting these ideas for the moment and will discuss alternatives for moving forward with ISOC Execs.
All the best,
Ted

> Does ISOC Global pour money into all of the chapters? How much? Why? What for? How is it accounted for? Is it legal, both from a donor perspective (a non-profit's funds cannot be used to enrich an individual) and a recipient perspective (many countries bar a non-profit from receiving foreign funds)?
> Does ISOC Global use the franchise model, and provide central services that chapters chose to use? This has the benefits of economies of scale and flexibility, but is it OK if it makes only 90% of the chapters happy?

>> After all - and that's a fact not known to all people on this list, it were the chapters who provided the overwhelming support for ISOC, when it was bidding to get the management of .org.
>> It were the chapters, who collected letters from governments, academia, and non-profits, to be brought against other bidders. Let me remind you, that some of the other bidders were also far better prepared to run a registry, than ISOC. Back then, ISOC was not the same organization as it is today, and therefore we, the chapters, have done our duty to ISOC.
