Dear Ted,
Some email list programs (such as googlegroups) has a feature that lists
Bouncing messages. It makes it possible for the list administrator to know
what email addresses are bouncing on a continual basis.
Had such a feature been included in the design of the AMS, it wouldn't be
necessary for you to send out three or four messages (or ping them in some
way) to draw up a list of bouncing messages.
Such a feature would have given the Chapter administrators the ability to
periodically monitor, correct and update the Chapter's email database.
There are still several gaps in the email functionality of the AMS. At the
moment messages could be sent to the membership database, but the list
could be used more like an "announce" list, without the full functionality
of an interactive mailing list. Perhaps you could take a look at this and
other gaps if you examine the absence of a "bouncing" feature in AMS.
