[Chapter-delegates] Membership Database Maintenance

Great initiative.

Is it not possible for the AMS to capture duplicates? Also the AMS could catch or flag incorrect emails. The DC Chapter uses MailChimp for many of its communications because of its email management tools.

We check the MailChimp list against the AMS Chapter list to get new members. We have not had tile to go back to clean out the AMS list. And I do sometimes find bounce backs from the AMS list from people who successfully receive our MailChimp emails.

Getting bounce backs from applicants for membership is somewhat disconcerting since presumably they had entered the correct email in applying.

Finally I find that often emails on government or corporate servers are blocked by firewalls or require a confirming emails. Any thought about how to handle this problem?

Any email address that returns four "hard bounces" to our system will flag that member record as "unreachable". At the end of four weeks we will unsubscribe all such records in the database from receiving email from ISOC, and we will cancel these memberships.
