Thanks Alejandro for bringing up my name.
After some time of thinking and internal discussion I am ready to step forward as a candidate
to represent the chapters at the By-Laws Committee discussions.
Like already mentioned by Klaus in his email earlier today, I also feel some reluctance
to step into the process at this time.
- I assume that the bylaws discussion is already near its end for this round of revisions
and only few possibilities if any for substantial input are left
- As far as I was involved in the discussion over the last 10 months I got the impression
that not the bylaws alone (or any change of it) are the center of the problem, but the
overall interaction between staff, board, members, chapters and org-members.
- Especially the path of control and the possibility of appeal against unilateral decisions
need more discussion, documented rules and clarity
- Using "cause based" and "look at the mission" should not be used as an excuse for
the Internet Society to act as a pure top-down organization without a strong
representation at all levels from its members be it individuals, companies or chapters
- Working behind closed doors and presenting only the final result for public discussion
does not help to find wide consensus and wide spread support - this process should
be much more open and inclusive
But let us see what is possible with the bylaws in this round
- and perhaps we need to continue in an much broader and more fundamental from ground
up process to renew the whole setting of the Internet Society
