[Chapter-delegates] Communication tools (was Isoc Identity)

hi Ed, Everyone,
I've changed the subject line of this email as I want to follow up on
Ed's email (and others) on the kinds of communication tools that would
be useful to help support Chapters in doing their work. I do
understand the frustration expressed by some on this list. It is clear
that we (and I use "we" used in the broadest sense - as we need your
help) should be able to deliver communications tools that are
appropriate for 2012.
There are many suggestions and possibilities for different
functionality, tools and platforms. Across the Chapter community
there are many different needs and environments. Please help us to
understand what you would consider to be the priorities in terms of
needed support and tools. To make sure that we are hearing from as
many people as possible who are on this list (which numbers 400+), we
will develop a very short survey - to take a 'reading'. The
information we receive will ensure that we have solicited some basic
information from as many people as possible across this very diverse
community with very diverse needs.
So, this is a starting point of an ongoing conversation and it will
help us focus on identifying a process to take the next steps in terms
of priority areas.
So far I have heard:
- Identity service
- Newsgroups
- Webhosting (a reimbursement service is already planned to be
launched by end Q1)
- Domain names
- Instant messaging forums
- Engagement platform including supporting Collaboration and Document
sharing
- Chapter/Membership portal development
- Chapter/Membership API development
Am I missing anything?
thanks for your help,
Anne
