[Chapter-delegates] Global INET Update

I don't understand the reaction from ISOC, seriously.
There are no more than 10-20, let them be 50 chapter members, who might
have come to Geneva, if the conference was free. ISOC came back to the
list with another, shall I call it, offer? As if we are at an Orient
market, and the salesmen is trying to sell what we want to buy, but we
all know that arguing about the price is part of the culture.
Well, I said that I refuse to be awarded as a VVIP (what does the second
"v" stands for - "Veni", or second "very"?) with a free pass, if that
pass does not go to the chapters' members, or at least chapters' members
of the board. I haven't spend 17 years of my life, dedicated to the
ideas of ISOC, so that in return I will be a VVIP, or something like that.
I've respected the organization, I have fought for the organization -
both nationally and around the world, and I have tried to change it when
I was on the Board of Trustees. That's normal, and I would expect
similar from the other Trustees. Many of them were the Internet pioneers
in their countries, and they do not need the recognition of ISOC HQ that
they are such.
Hope that ISOC can reconsider yet again, and just forget the usual
salesmen discussion. We are not at the market, we are not trying to buy
our participation at a conference for cheaper. We just believe that
since ISOC is widely accepted as a respected organization, because of
its members, and because of its chapters, it has to be adequately
addressing their needs, not its own. And, on that point, it would be
good to know how much the conference costs, and why ISOC doesn't have
money to pay for all of it, but asks for participation fee.
And even more interesting is to see who the speakers will be. If you
don't have them by now, I am worried that no good ones could show up at
such a short notice.
