[Chapter-delegates] Special Invitation to Global INET 2012

Hi, everyone - some light on this question.
I got an email that the invitation was sent to me as a former Board of
Trustees member. Needless to say, this wasn't in the invitation, as you all
saw it.
However, to respond to some of the off-the-list emails -

I wrote to ISOC that I wouldn't mind joining the INET in Geneva, *if the
invitation was going out to all current members of ISOC, or at least
chapter presidents and trustees. *
I also noted that this is important for me, because I was a Trustee,
elected by chapters, and I would have liked to see this invitation as a
sign that ISOC finally has recognized the importance of the chapters, which
elected me, and not the importance of the Trustees.

I know it may sound naive, but many of you here remember the time, when we
were struggling to persuade ISOC that it has to work closely with the
chapters, and it should recognize the importance of the chapters, and of
the fact that they, the chapters, bring legitimacy to the organization.

I hope you would agree with me that chapters should have been given special
treatment at this special INET, with at least allowing their officers to
participate free at the INET (although, given the tens of millions of USD
that ISOC is spending, I would argue that a free admission for everyone in
Geneva would be a better investment and would have had a great return for
the organization). After all, travel and stay in Geneva for most of the
countries of the world is a pretty expensive adventure, but the
participation fee could be used instead for airplane ticket or hotel stay
for several nights. ISOC must show more respect towards its chapters, many
of which made the .org deal possible by gathering support from around the
planet to prove that ISOC will be a good guardian of the public interest,
if they are given the management of the .org top level domain.

best,
veni
