Voluntary hours spent by ISOC Chapter Members and Leaders? Are you talking
about the work done by ISOC Chapter Leaders and Members voluntarily, (which
is more often than not) of a quality and value equal to and excess of the
work done by Staff whose time is expensively compensated? Do you think the
volunteer time of ISOC Chapter Members and Leaders deserves a bit of value
and some respect?
There is a contrary belief that Chapter Members and Delegates should rather
be grateful to a staff program director for the hotel room arranged to
attend the program. The cost of the hotel room is considered way high above
the value of the day of the Chapter Leader's time.
Also, voluntary hours are inferior to staff hours, because voluntary hours
are zero cost while staff hours could range between $100,000 - $250,000.
( An example situation: If a Program Director flies down to your country
to attend a program, you should show 'respect' by not taking even half a
day off, of a ten-seater staff-designed session during a three day program,
irrespective of the fact that your reasons may be compelling. If you ever
do that could be insultingly asked to pay back the proportionate cost of
your stay. This could be new to ISOC, ISOC is importing commendable
practices of Volunteer (mis)management from Losotho)
Don't you think it makes sense?
Ted Mooney should be in a position to enlighten you.
( I could elaborate in private, rather than in this open list, as it adds
to the insult to talk about an insult suffered.)
