Marcin, in 2001 ISOC was an almost bankrupt organization. Today it has millions of dollars, which it can't spend, and has increased the staff tens of times, compared to 2001. Let's not compare expenses, but income.
ISOC could and should do much better, ESPECIALLY for its members. With a
budget in the tens of millions of USD, it just doesn't make sense to charge
for participation. Tell me that the participation fee is not because the
management of the conference is being done outside of ISOC?
When we met last time in Stockholm in 2001 the price was $499 for ISOC members,
which makes it 580 of today's Swiss Francs! So you get two gala dinners
included now for that price! It's a bargain! :)
I sneaked in for free as a volunteer and this was my first contact with
a global Internet community.
