Dear Colleagues,

This was posted yesterday to the sphere-labels group. If you would
like to contribute to the review of the Chapter Guide we would like to
invite you to join the "sphere-labels" mailing list. Just send email
to <chapter-support at isoc.org>. We would be delighted to have
additional help.

Best wishes
Anne

> Dear Sphere Labels group,
>
> This is just a short email to update you of the status of the work
> on the Affiliation document and the Chapter Guide since my last
> posting to this group on December 20th last year.
>
> * The work of the Chapter Taskforce in helping to develop a
> framework for the Affiliation document is now complete. We are very
> thankful to the task-force members for their help.
> * The remainder of the work will be done in collaboration with this
> group, the Sphere - Labels group
>
> Where are we now?
> * As I noted in December, a "Chapter Guide" is being developed
> which will include:
> - Principles of Affiliation
> - Affiliation document
> - Supporting and Contextual information for both (some will be
> sourced from the Chapter handbook)
> * Initial drafting work has begun on the "Chapter Guide" with
> writing and editorial input from Peter Houstle and Wendy Rickard.
> * Review and feedback of this document will be done by the sphere-
> labels group. Input will continue to be accepted from any source, eg
> from chapter workshops.
> * We will be seeking additional volunteers in an effort to widen the
> feedback and review
> * Feedback will continue to be archived on the sphere-labels pages.
>
> When do we need your help?
> * The goal is to have an early draft of the Chapter Guide ready for
> your review by the beginning of March, including a tweaked
> Affiliation Framework and Principles of Affiliation document.
>
> As a separate note, the proposal to review the Internet Society By-
> laws has been accepted. It is anticipated that this process will be
> ongoing throughout 2011, due to the necessity for Board discussion
> and review.
>
> Thank you to everyone who has helped so far. We continue to rely on
> your feedback and help.
>
> Best wishes

>> hi Everyone
>>
>> This is just a short note to let you know where we are at the
>> moment regarding the Affiliation document. This email is timely,
>> given the email from Christopher (thank you!) on the Chapter
>> delegates mailing list.
>>
>> 26th November we posted to the website:
>>
>> a) aggregated feedback from all sources to version 2 of the
>> Affiliation document at: http://wiki.chapters.isoc.org/tiki-index.php?page=Summary+of+feedback+to+version+2&bl=y
>> and
>> b) summary from the task force meeting on the 2nd November at http://wiki.chapters.isoc.org/tiki-index.php?page=Notes+from+the+taskforce&bl=y
>>
>> Notice regarding these two summaries was sent to the chapter
>> delegates list: https://elists.isoc.org/pipermail/chapter-delegates/2010-November/006882.html
>> .
>>
>> One of the most important changes to the Affiliation "Agreement"
>> document, was the decision, following the feedback received, to
>> investigate an alternative "form" for it. To be clear, it will now
>> not be a legal "Agreement". It may be a letter or an MoU - we are
>> currently reviewing what is possible. I do apologise for the
>> oversight in producing the revised Board of Trustees plan, that the
>> information regarding the current status was not brought up to date
>> and the terminology changed, as it should have been.
>>
>> Where are we in the process?
>> Our current status is documented here: http://wiki.chapters.isoc.org/tiki-index.php?page=Sphere+Project&bl=n&saved_msg=y
>> . Work is underway to revise the material in the Chapter Handbook,
>> on the website and elsewhere to provide a consolidated, easy to
>> use, framework which provides context for the Affiliation document.
>>
>> Where do the Chapters stand now?
>> We are currently integrating the feedback and taskforce decisions
>> to produce a revised Affiliation document, which will be supported
>> by and integrated into the "Chapter Guide". We continue to rely on
>> the feedback and participation of those in the Sphere Labels to
>> help us with this task. *There are some pieces of the Affiliation
>> document that are still to be resolved*. The first iteration of the
>> "Chapter Guide" will be shared with this group. As always we will
>> cross post notifications to the Chapter delegates list. Our goal is
>> to have something to share by the beginning of February 2011.
>>
>> It is fair to say that the process itself is not particularly
>> linear at this point, but every effort has been, and will continue
>> to be made, to be inclusive, to be transparent, to listen to
>> comments and to feedback and to be flexible. The over-arching goal
>> is to find a framework that supports the Chapter structure and
>> members of the Chapters to successfully advance the mission of the
>> Internet Society. This process is also not particularly fast: we
>> started the work on the Affiliation document in November 2009 with
>> the first consultation. We are still going and it will take a while
>> longer. At the same time as producing the Chapter Guide, in 2011 we
>> are also planning to develop and deploy a "Chapter Dashboard"
>> which will help Chapters with visual easy-to-use indicators. We
>> will seek feedback from Chapters on the 'usability' interface of
>> the Dashboard. The goal is to minimise any duplication of
>> information and to simplify current processes.
>>
>> I hope this explains our current status of "work in progress". If
>> you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them.
>>
>> Best wishes, and thank you for your continued participation and
>> look forward to your continued help with this important task.
