Dear friends and colleagues on ISOC Chapter Delegates list,
As many of you already know, ISOC-PH has just been rejuvenated and we
are now trying to get the Chapter activities formalized and its
membership policies set into place.
First - On a very practical level, I am interested in advise and
experiences (especially the negative ones!) regarding Chapter membership
billing policies and procedures. For now, we are considering a very
simple billing system - a simple bank transfer process, for all members.
In this regard, I would like to know from Chapter delegates what member
billing systems you have used which automates the process (sends bill
reminders, etc.). Also we have no facility for accepting credit cards
and don't fancy Paypal too much. Nevertheless, I would like to hear from
those who have used Paypal (or other) and which systems worked and which
systems became horror stories.
Second - I would like to get in touch with our colleagues from ISOC
Chennai and particularly the person who was at the IGF in Hyderabad, and
asked about "Internet Fundamentals" during the "Taking Stock and the Way
Forward" session - http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/hyderabad_prog/TSAWF.html
My purpose is to initiate possibility of collaboration through our
Education Working Group that would like to deal with discussions on
fundamental questions about the Internet. I will send a more
comprehensive information on this shortly.
Third - I would also like to get in touch with colleagues in the various
Chapters who are doing work in the area of Copyright and Intellectual
Property (particularly, the negative impact of these systems on
"developing countries" such as the Philippines). In this connection, I
would like to direct your attention to the case of philosophy Professor
Horacio Potel from University of Buenos Aires in Argentina, who now
faces possible conviction for copyright infringment by providing Spanish
translations of works and life of Derrida on his website for scholars
and students -
English-

Spanish -

Please let me know if anyone is working in these areas of copyright and
the Internet.
ISOC-PH is also establishing working groups on IPv6, and Internet
Governance. In IG, we are starting with setting up a remote
participation hub in the Philippines c/o one of our members Charity
Gamboa who is an associate of Diplo).
On behalf of ISOC-PH, I look forward to working with the various
Chapters to get ISOC-PH truly strong and rejuvenated!
Please reply on list - or back-channel to me thru fats at isoc.ph.
Thanks and Best wishes,
Fatima Lasay.
President, ISOC-PH
