Hi,
The Veni idea is good if the basic content of the INET
conferences is being preserved.
I attended almost all
INET conferences from their beginning (late eighties) and that one
in Kobe (1992) when ISOC was set up as a Society.
Main attraction of INET conferences was the content that
addressed the "development of Internet" in all
aspects: technology, society and end users.
Governance was one of the topics but not so much
exposed. We discussed more the most relevant
topics for Internet further development and the
new technology solutions.
In planning a new INET conference we should not
try to replace someone else event(s), e.g. IGF
or WSIS (influenced by governments) but we need
to offer new content - including all good topics
that attracted so many people on the past INET conferences.
These conferences were the main place where all
people that worked on the Internet development
met to discuss important issues and listen to each other.
Now, with the tremendous change in network
technology and the call(s) for new concepts
of Internet we may have another challenging topic(s)
to attract relevant and interested people.
So, Veni idea is not to be thrown away. Maybe it
should be elaborated more deeply and if
substantial content is found then the organization
could be launched for year 2011.
With regards,
Borka Jerman-Blazic
