Alan - I appreciate hearing your thoughts, and must say I agree on the JPA. I thought we had a good discussion of the paper here and don't disagree very much on substance. In contrast we do have work to do on process. Thanks again.

IMHO it's always nice to have some kind of chat room. As long as
there is internet access, a jabber/yahoo chat room should not be
difficult to setup. Most of us have used both before and we have
accounts/address-books to look up and add folk. (I am Jabber:

Re: JPA
I feel that this is largely a political issue rather than technical
co-ordination/governance so I'm hesitant to take a position. I know
that our government is strongly against US 'control' (I know the word
should be oversight but for illustrative reasons I prefer to use the
word control). I personally would much rather have US control than UN
control, or ZA control. But I don't believe there should be any
government control, the GAC seems to work fine.
I do believe that we need to end the experiment and validate ICANN as
THE vehicle for global Internet co-ordination as soon as possible,
quickly but without compromising the process.
I hope that we can come to consensus about it although I wonder if
ISOC global can sustain itself in it's current form. The tension
between big business and chapter and civil society interests are
often juxtaposed. Has there ever been a follow up study since the
change in governance in ISOC? I believe that organisational members
gained 'control' of the BOT in 1998/9, has the effects of this ever
been looked at?
Sincerely
Alan
