APPLICATION ISOC ROMANIA
A. Proposed name of the Chapter
The name of the Association is Asociatia Societatea Internet Isoc
Romanian Chapter. Societatea Internet is the Romanian translation
of Internet Society. The translation is mandatory, as required by
the Romanian law.
B. Community of Interest the Chapter will to serve
The association accepts members living in but not limited to Romania
and having in common an interest for Internet, the civil society, and
for the Romanian culture, regardless of nationality.
C. Purpose and Scope of Chapter
The purpose of the Association is to analyze the problems and needs
of Romanians, raised by the appearance of the new communication media
and technologies (the Internet, etc.), to mobilize the communitarian
resources towards the development and introduction on a large scale
of the above mentioned new communication media and technologies; to
promote modern methods and means of solving the identified problems.
We think that serving our community as an ISOC chapter is the best
way to take advantage from ISOC network and experience. Networking
with other ISOC chapters all over the world will significantly
complement our association goals.

F. List of Requirements
For further details, please see the bylaws. The bylaws of the
association are compliant with the Romanian law. We tried to stay as
close as possible to the bylaws model provided by ISOC.
According to the Pruteanu law, Romanian companies and associations
have to translate all foreign association names into Romanian; this
is why the name of the chapter is mainly in Romanian. We have taken
the necessary steps to register Internet Society name in Romania. The
isoc.ro website is registered since 2001, and the Societatea
Internet name is reserved since 2002. This is a legal requirement
in Romania. According to the Romanian law, it would be impossible for
another association to have a legal presence with this name.
We have also proposed a logo, please see the attachment. We have
checked all this requirements with M. Georgescu, attorney-at law, who
is also the Censor of our proposed chapter.
G. Additional Information
Proposed chapter history:
In 2000, we have been proposed by Mr. Olivier Iteanu, ex-Chairman of
the French chapter, to join the Internet Society and also to play an
active role in the set up of the Romanian chapter.
We have participated to the annual Isoc France meeting in January
2001, where we met with other members of the Society. We had the
opportunity to speak at that time to Christine Maxwell, who
encouraged us to submit an application.
In May 2001, we launched our activity in Romania.
Weve also participated to the ISOC 2001 annual meeting, in Sweden.
In July 2001, weve made a presentation of our proposed chapter to
the French-speaking Romanian community, with the official support of
several institutions: French ministry of Culture, Aupelf-Uref, Isoc
France, Isoc Wallonie.
The chapter is already functioning as a real motivated team
officiously since 2001 and officially since 2002. We already have our
website (http://www.isoc.ro), and the IT strategy magazine (http://
www.contactnet.ro) will become the official magazine of our chapter.
For a list of actions achieved in 2002, see our annual report.
In 2006, we have initiated a series of projects. The association
successfully proposed the project Sibiu everywhere to the
organizers of Sibiu 2007 and the Romanian Ministry of culture
(Luxembourg and Sibiu will be in 2007 the cultural capital of Europe)
None of our Board of Directors members has any active affiliation
with the Romanian Government, Presidency or political parties.
