Look, Franck,
what you propose does not solve the problem, but makes another one.
Why do you think that suddenly the BoT will start to liste to the
chapters?? Or why do you think an article at the slashdot will solve
anything? There's one at www.icannwatch.org - so what?
We have to figure out a different way.
First, we define a process of how to handle all issues, related to chapter
- HQ relations. If we don't build a process, we'll ALWAYS end in such turmoil.
We really need to start to work professionally, not enthusiastically only.
I've been thinking a lot in the last year (!) about it, I made some of the
Trustees really angry or mad at me, because I was after one dream - that we
have to make ISOC spend more efforts on public policy - the area all
chapters are interested in.
We are a natural extention for ISOC, but we also have to remember that we
have existed without ISOC, or in other words - all the chapters are
registered in their countries, or at least have some statute, and even if
they are not chapters, they still can do great work for the local Internet
community.
We have to make sure that the communications between ISOC HQ and the
chapters is good, keeping in mind that as of today chapters are not the
biggest concern for ISOC (which, by the way, is good!), and we have to make
sure we contribute, not destruct.
Now, it would have been quite easy for me to get "on board" of your
frustration, esp. in election campaign, but I think it's more important to
wisely try to fix things. Easiest would be to spoil them (further).
Best,
veni
