David,
I believe that monthly would be best. I suggest we have the first ones via
instant messaging and that Lynn and at least one additional chapter board
member. I suggest that our Board Reps communicate with you and organize a
set of agenda items that are pertinent to chapters. Let me suggest some of
these to Pat, Rosa and Veni.
1. State of the chapters, where are we , where are we growing, What can be
done to spur the chapters forward? Start new chapters where and how,
regional formations, where and how to support them
2. Status of the progress of Chapter funding, what types of guidelines are
being created, what should chapters do to prepare proposals, Deadlines
3.I suggest that we adopt a State of the Global Internet Initiative where we
get a country by country profile of Internet growth and user behavior. What
ISOC chapters are doing to promulgate specific policies on a country by
country basis to spur Internet use and to keep the Internet open and
available to all.

I suggest we develop and implement a worldwide virtual community where
blogging, instant messaging and discussion groups are set up for our use
internally. Such a communications infrastructure will have a major impact on
our ability to work together and support each other

Perhaps, you can start us off with a detailed description of the progress of
the new membership system; perhaps a few of us who have the time can be
enlisted to help beta test it. The most important thing is that we take
action immediately and push forward on the many good ideas that we get here
from both our chapters delegates, staff and the Board chapter
representatives, Pat Rosa and Veni.

Thanks David, for your initiative. Let's make this happen so that we can get
the first one going in the next two weeks.

Warmest regards,
Ram Morales

Subject: [chapter-delegates] Better Communications

Dear Chapter Delegates:

It seems to me that the Chapters Delegates list has become more active over
recent times and now that the archives are open (from January 1st of this
year) I am hoping it usefulness as a communications tool will increase even
further. I want to ask you about other tools that might be a good supplement
to this.

Do you feel believe that we should arrange a time for a real-time
synchronous discussion among chapters once a month or once a quarter. If so,
what technology do you see as the most sensible way to do this – instant
messaging, blogging, VoIP?

I think we could rotate times around the clock so that the call hits within
a ‘good’ timeframe for all of us on an even basis. I could also try to
organize an opening agenda, based on input from this group but maybe that
duty is better suited elsewhere – what do you think?

Also, how do you feel about a calendar on which chapters can post their
upcoming events and matters of interest? I would like to find a way to
communicate to the Board such things but this seems to be better suited to a
calendar that a mail list. I am interested in your thoughts.
