Somewhere in the latter 1980s, Jeff Case used SNMP to monitor and 
respond to excessive noise from a neighboring exhibitor.

The response to to send back to them the sound they were producing, at a 
slightly higher volume and with s slight time delay.  If was quite 
effective.

But I thought Stanford had a vending machine attached, with Louie's pot 
stickers and with cigarettes, among other things. And I thought that was 
in the 70s.  Maybe mid 1980s.
