Thanks for posting that link.

I took a look and was quite disappointed to see that they are continuing 
what I believe is one of the greatest failures of our decades of efforts 
to create, implement, and deploy the Internet:

The failure to adequately create means to manage, diagnose, and repair 
network problems.

I come from a family of repair-minded people.  My grandfather repaired 
radios, my father TVs.  I repair networks.  So I am very sensitive to 
these issues.

I find that our tools for networks are rather primitive.  And even those 
that we have are becoming increasingly difficult to use or simply become 
unusable because of our ever taller, ever thicker walls of security.

I first spoke on this topic more than two decades ago.  My talk was 
titled " From Barnstorming to Boeing –
Transforming the Internet Into a Lifeline Utility".  My proposed 
solutions were both technical, procedural (such as design rules), and 
non-technical (such as legal liability for various kinds of 
negligence.)  We have advanced very little on these fronts in the two+ 
intervening decades.
