I recall an IETF plenary talk, probably in the '90s, presenting the 
concept of telesurgery. At least at that time, a show-of-hands poll 
strongly suggested that attendees wouldn't feel confident about 
undergoing surgery if it was to be executed across the Internet. I still 
respect the skepticism.
