[ih] Fw: Fw: Nit-picking an origin story

Sorry. The "Fake Hosts" were software packages inside the IMP that
interacted over the network using the same mechanisms as real hosts, but
without a hardware interface. The fake hosts did such things as generate
traffic (for testing), record operational statistics, implement a debugging
package, and interface to the TTY attached to each IMP.. Use of the fake
hosts was generally restricted to BBN and the Network Measurement Center at
UCLA. In papers by Kleinrock and his team about network performance, the
traffic loads were usually generated by fake hosts and the performance was
generally reported by fake hosts. BBN used the fake hosts to for remote
debugging and network operations support.

Cheers,
Alex
