I was sad to hear recently that another former SRI colleague has passed away.  Earl died last year on August 21.  He was involved in a solo car accident where his car flipped over.  The police reported that he over corrected after he went off on a soft shoulder and the road was slick at the time.
I am sure people on this list knew him for his early work at SRI on packet speech.  I think this work focused on utilizing packet radio as the transmission media.   Here is a link to a picture of Earl in the mobile (bread) van.

In the 80s, Earl shifted to developing multimedia collaboration tools.
I saw Earl more often playing softball. He was an avid player in the SRI coed leagues. Earl would often bring his daughters to play, and cheer him and the team.
