in about '66, i had to get (medical monitoring) data from a pdp/8 over
in the hospitals to the 360/40 at the comp center.  the ibm 2701 serial
controller reversed the bits in each byte of the ascii to/from the pdp.
luckily, the 360 had a cute translate instruction.
