Dear Chapter Leaders,
The Internet has a history — and much of it lives in the archives, hard
drives, and memories of chapters like yours. The Internet Society wants to
make sure that history isn't lost.
Under the guidance of the ChAC Steering Committee and ISOC/ISOC Foundation
Staff, the Mexico and New York Chapters are launching the Proof of Concept
(PoC) for the *Chapter Content Archive Project (CCAP)* — an initiative to
preserve the Internet's history by collecting and safeguarding the
documents, photos, audio, and video produced by ISOC chapters around the
world.
We're looking for *ten chapters* to help pilot this project:
- *5 chapters* for the *Archival track*
- *5 chapters* for the *Audio & Video (AV) track*
*Archival Track*
Participating chapters will contribute copies of historical documents and
photos, preserved according to digital library standards. This involves
roughly *4 hours total*: attending online meetings, receiving training on
cataloguing and uploading materials to the CCAP Archive, and providing
feedback at the end of the pilot.
*AV Track*
Participating chapters will dedicate *5–8 hours* to producing, streaming,
and archiving audio/video content related to the Internet — training
sessions, meetings, conferences, and more. This time covers onboarding to
the production, recording, and streaming platform, plus uploading finished
content to the CCAP Archive.
*Timeline*
- *August:* Online introduction and Q&A session for interested chapters
- *Late September:* Selected chapters begin training
- *End of year:* PoC phase concludes
*What You'll Need*
- *Archival participants:* a computer with Internet access (a digital
scanner is a plus)
- *AV participants:* a computer, camera, and microphone, plus Internet
access for recording and streaming
Both the Archive and AV platforms run on open-source software, and detailed
technical requirements will be shared with selected chapters soon.
This is a chance to help shape how the global Internet community documents
and shares its own story — and to have your chapter's work preserved as
part of that history.
Watch for details on the August introductory session, and let us know if
your chapter is interested in taking part.
Warm regards,
Thilina and Alejandra on behalf of the ChAC Steering Committee
