Dear colleagues,

I hope you’re doing great. After the adoption of the Global Digital Compact (GDC) in September 2024, the UN Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology (OSET) announced that the Compact is open to all stakeholders for endorsement<https://www.un.org/global-digital-compact/en>. Earlier this year, the office transitioned into the UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (ODET<https://www.un.org/techenvoy/content/press-release-new-un-office-digital-and-emerging-technologies>). They also shared the endorsement list<https://www.un.org/global-digital-compact/en/endorsements> as of 31 December 2024.

In November 2024, we published a brief analysis<https://www.internetsociety.org/issues/internet-governance/news-updates/global-digital-compact-endorsement/> regarding how we understand the endorsement opportunity. After careful consideration, the Internet Society has decided not to endorse the GDC<https://www.internetsociety.org/issues/internet-governance/news-updates/gdc-endorsement-decision/>. As the endorsement and the implementation have been decoupled, we await details regarding its implementation, particularly in reference to areas where it aligns with our mission and ongoing work.

If you are considering the endorsement opportunity or have any questions, please contact me and/or my colleague Mona Gaballa (in CC).

Best,
Isra
