Dear Klaus,
Please see my message from earlier this week highlighting some of the recent system improvements attached to this message.
As mentioned on this list and in conversations with the Chapters Advisory Council, the transition to the new AMS was made in December 2023 and the team is now working on continuously improving the functionality to allow for a smoother user experience overall. Please watch out for the system release notes on the Community Portal Updates Chatter Group<https://community.internetsociety.org/s/group/0F9UO00000001Tx0AI/community-portal-updates> as well as related messages on this list that will highlight some of the developments implemented in response to issues submitted by the chapter community.
Let me just also point out that we are in a separate conversation with you with regards to the particularities related to the list of member records of the Germany chapter and are doing our best to help your chapter sort this out.
And, as is the case for all chapter leaders, for any individual challenges that you may encounter, please continue submitting these via AMSHelp at isoc.org<mailto:AMSHelp at isoc.org>. In addition, and as is currently the case for the Germany chapter, our Community Engagement Managers are happy to help. You can reach them via chapter-support at isoc.org<mailto:chapter-support at isoc.org>.
If there are topics that are of concern to a larger part of our chapter community which you feel need to be addressed differently, please do let your chapter’s Chapters Advisory Council representative<https://www.internetsociety.org/chapters/chapters-advisory-council/list-of-representatives/> know so that this can be brought to the attention of the Chapters Advisory Council.
Thanks!
Christine

Hello Delegates,
[Of course I notice that the focus of discussions is on other - more serious? - issues. But in terms of persistence and resilience as an issue AMS will stay - as it stayed over years now.]
So good news: end of 2023 our precious "MemberNova initiative" (the older ones might remember: this was an ISOC working group launched by ISOC in March 2020) gave birth to a new AMS. No longer "Membernova" but "Fonteva by Sales Force" now! In fact this happened without a single meeting and without any activity of the "MemberNova initiative" - so lets just call it a miracle. It is still AMS and so I'm proud to proclaim that the former "Membernova initiative anniversary day" on 15th of March has become the new "AMS celebration day".
As you may have noticed before one of the main achievements of "Fonteva by Sales Force" is to "make simple things complex again" (if not completely impossible, see below). I gave an example before wrt. sending mails to your Chapter members. To mark the AMS celebration day I think another example is due.
Recently I wanted to tell "Fonteva by Sales Force" that 11 individuals that it lists as members of our Chapter are no Chapter members. According to best practices you might think of this as a simple procedure:
1. let "Fonteva by Sales Force" list the page with your "Active Group Members" members (1 wait for the list; wait ::= wait for server to respond)
2. pick and check the 11 individuals that are no longer members (11 clicks - no wait)
3. select "terminate membership" from a bulk actions list/drop down (1 or 2 clicks)
4. confirm operation on a pop-up (1 click - usually a local operation, no wait)
in total: 14 clicks, 1 wait for the members list).
Of course there is room for more activity. And "Fonteva by Sales Force" enforces it. Let's start like above.
1. let "Fonteva by Sales Force" list the page with your "Active Group Members" (1 wait for the list).
2. Click on the "Community Group Member ID" (not to confuse with the ISOC ID) for 1 terminated member. (1 click, 1 wait for the Community Group Member record page)
3. Click on the drop down in the first row, just one option - "Terminate" - appears (1 click)
4. Click on "Terminate" (1 click - Btw.: no confirmation required here!)
5. Click "<-" (aka Back) to get back to the "Active Group Members" page (1 click, 1 wait for the list)
6. repeat steps 2 to 5 for the other 10 member terminations (10 * 5 = 60 clicks, 10 * 2 = 20 waits).
(You can find the respective instructions on https://communitytraining.internetsociety.org/training/terminate-chapter-membership/.)
in total: 66 clicks, 22 waits for server response (apologies if I missed some).
So finally "Fonteva by Sales Force" (AMS) wins over "usable best practices" (bp) with:
* 66 clicks (AMS) vs 14 clicks (bp)
* 21 waits (AMS) vs 1 wait (bp).
Do you have members that registered with our Chapter locally? On next year's "AMS celebration day" I'll show you how you can register them with AMS. Sorry, I cannot do this today. AMS doesn't allow Chapter Admins to do this. But next year, or maybe a few years later ... who knows?
Finally before I forget:
Via Chapter-delegates I wrote on 15.01.24 16:07:
if you think https://communitytraining.internetsociety.org/training/send-email-as-chapter-leader/<https://communitytraining.internetsociety.org/training/send-email-as-chapter-leader/?locale=de>
* is meant seriously click https://isoc.de/isoc-training-send-email-as-chapter-leader-is-meant-seriously.php
* is a satire click https://isoc.de/isoc-training-send-email-as-chapter-leader-is-a-satire.php
To express a strong opinion you may of course vote more than once. Results of the voting will be published on this list by 2024-03-15 (the annual AMS celebration day).
The final result (nip and tuck!) is available on https://isoc.de/isoc-training-send-email-as-chapter-leader-is-a-satire.php:
* 110 for "is meant seriously"
* 114 for "is a satire"
Happy AMSing everybody
Klaus
