Dear Colleagues,
In light of this situation, wecall to the Internet Society to contact the ISOC chapter in Israel, toencourage the Israeli government to reconsider the internet shutdown in Gaza. Sincethis action goes against the shared mission to establish an open,globally-connected, secure, and trustworthy internet accessible to everyone.
you can find some important issueregarding the internet shutdown in Gaza that may not be clear to somecolleagues:
1. The decision to shut downcellular communications and Internet services in Gaza is a political discussionmanaged by the Ministry of Communications in Israel. This information isofficially published on their website:
https://www.gov.il/en/departments/news/17102023
2. Throughout the war, there weremultiple instances of internet shutdowns. Further details can be found at thislink

3. Palestine has its own countrycode, PS, which is entirely managed by the Palestinian Authority.
4. Palestine lacks an internationalinternet gateway, leading all internet traffic to pass through lines andinternet exchanges in Israeli territory.
5. In Gaza, only outdated 2G service isavailable, with equipment that hasn't been updated for over 15 years as aresult of the Israeli siege.

Hi Borka,
I am unfamiliar with the UN Human Rights rule that requires the offending party to repair infrastructure of the aggrieved part during wartime actions. Please send link so I can learn.

Hi,
Bombing the city of Gaza and surroundings has obviously damaged the internet infrastructure (links and servers). The damage was results mainly from the Israel bombing the city by the Israel army. So responsibility is in the Israel army and the repair must be done by the subject that caused the damage. Do not try to hide the responsibility for not working internet.
Regards,
Borka
