Indeed! ... and as the world turns and the time zones zip by, the first to
post. :)
I and many of my fellow chapter members would certainly endorse and vote for
Cheryl as she brings much to the table as a knowledgeable and independent voice.
There are several other qualified candidates for the Steering Commitee and i
would like to see the Chapters being led to a more significant role within ISOC
internally.
As a fairly recent example, the ChAC's "shining moment" would be the Chapters'
overwhelming endorsement of a call for reconsideration and review of the PIR
sale. That was the Chapters themselves, but the Steering Committee and ChAC
officers at the time did much to ensure that the Chapters were heard, even
re-doing a perfectly valid vote process in the face of baseless innuendo and
attacks from certain ISOC (HQ) Trustees. Chapters should certainly be more
proactive within ISOC and not just local extensions instructed to do the work on
a centrally-decided agenda, or worse mere window dressing to provide global,
multistakeholder window dressing for an increasing trend towards a centralized,
top-down, corporatist ethos (pun intended) in the service of American Big
Business. Thus i am hoping that the incoming Steering Committee will assist
Chapters in ensuring that their diverse voices are heard and their views
reflected in ISOC (HQ) policies and programs.
Best,
WYn
