Dear colleagues,
On our previous message we asked you for comments to the World Telecommunications Development Conference (WTDC) Background paper. Now, we are now ready to further our urgent call for governments to support new, innovative policies to connect the unconnected. During the WTDC 2022 we will focus on promoting policies that enable community networks and Internet exchange points.
But the most important work is not only what happens during the conference, but our long term engagements and participation. You have an important role to play on helping to achieve universal connectivity. That’s why we invite you to encourage your government and regulatory agencies locally to help create an enabling environment for community networks and IXPs, to flourish and expand Internet infrastructure.
Take a look at these resources, containing the final version of the background paper and some relevant talking point to engage with your local government: https://isoc.app.box.com/folder/163346190443?s=cybjgzvifhb3evjlf0gzvgsyrt25sc17
In our WTDC page<https://www.internetsociety.org/events/wtdc-2022/> you will also find more information on our priorities and additional resources including further information on the meeting and our engagements, and the Resolutions Matrix<https://www.internetsociety.org/resources/doc/2022/wtdc-2022-issues-matrix/>, with the ITUs resolutions related to WTDC-22, and the Internet Society’s comments on each of them. Please remember the Matrix is a living document and the team will be updating it regularly to reflect the latests information during the event (Last version: 22 May 2022).
If you would like to support or learn more about our engagements, don’t hesitate to reach out at peirano at isoc.org<mailto:peirano at isoc.org>.
