Puteri,

Many thanks for your kind words. I’m glad the information was helpful. And yes, space debris is a huge concern.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

I'm new to LEOs and watched your video in the ISOC Fundamentals 2022 course. It was definitely a technology that I think could connect the unconnected. Your neutral stand on the technology is helpful for a newbie especially when you mentioned how it needs more work, research and the discovery of its untapped potentials. I am looking forward to the progress of the project and especially, hope to hear more about the space waste.

Hello chapter leaders!

Do any of you have comments about our “Perspectives on LEO Satellites” draft document<https://isoc.box.com/s/zy90wj185bwlm93dkdacuoedmg8u61t6>? Is it going in the right direction? Are there sections you think could use more info? Or sections that aren’t necessary? When finalized, would a document like this be helpful to you in helping discuss Internet access via LEO satellite systems in your region? Or would it not be helpful? How can we help you educate people about LEO satellite systems?

If you do have any comments, we’d like to hear them! Even if it’s just a comment of “Looks good. Useful information.” You can send them to leo-comments at isoc.org<mailto:leo-comments at isoc.org> or to Steve or I directly.

We haven’t seen many comments yet from Chapters, and I don’t know if that is because the deadline is next Monday (July 4) - or if this email message was lost in the flow of other messages.
Having been subscribed to this list for 10+ years, I *know* many of you have opinions! 🙂 I would welcome any feedback you have!

Thanks,
Dan

Your feedback needed! - "Perspectives on LEO Satellites – Using Low Earth Orbit Satellites for Internet Access"

As you may be aware, we are engaged in a project[1] to explore whether Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite-based Internet services can be a viable option for Internet connectivity. The result of this project is a document, outlining the Internet Society’s perspectives and recommendations. This is intended to be a useful resource for the community at large, and especially for policymakers and regulators.

In accordance with our Policy Development Process (PDP), we are putting the draft document out to our community for a three-week comment period. This is their (and your!) opportunity to weigh in on an emerging technology. We welcome constructive feedback. Please do send comments no later than your local close-of-business on 4-July-2022 to <leo-comments at isoc.org<mailto:leo-comments at isoc.org>>. The draft document is at [https://isoc.box.com/s/zy90wj185bwlm93dkdacuoedmg8u61t6](https://isoc.box.com/s/zy90wj185bwlm93dkdacuoedmg8u61t6) . The PDF will be English-only, but feedback will be accepted in EN, FR, or ES.

You are welcome to share it directly with other members of your network, but we ask that you do not share it publicly yet (this includes not posting it to any mailing lists). We strongly encourage all interested members to review the documents, provide feedback and engage in this process!

=> Please do not send this to any mailing lists without first talking with Steve Olshansky olshansky at isoc.org<mailto:olshansky at isoc.org> or Dan York <york at isoc.org<mailto:york at isoc.org>>.

In particular, we are looking for your view on the following questions:

• Does this guidance and recommendations make sense?

• Is something missing in our analysis, and if so, what?

• Do you have additional insights, positive or negative, that you would like to share?

• Is it a helpful tool for you to better understand the issues involved?

• Do you have suggestions for improvements, or ideas for how this document can be used by the Internet Society members and allies?

After the PDP, we will review the feedback received and publish an updated version of this document.

On behalf of the project, I thank you in advance for your consideration and thoughtful feedback.

Best regards-

Steve, on behalf of the Internet Society LEO project team
