-------- Original message --------From: Eduardo Diaz <eduardodiazrivera at gmail.com> Date: 2022-02-16 10:24 (GMT-05:00) To: Chapter Delegates <chapter-delegates at elists.isoc.org>, Chapters AC Elist <ChaptersAC-SC at elists.isoc.org> Cc: isocpr-board-group-list at googlegroups.com, Pierre-Jean Darres <pjdarres at isoc.quebec> Subject: Official request by ISOC Puerto Chapter (ISOC-PR) to the Chapter Advisory Council Steering Committee (ChAC-SC) Dear ISOC ChAC-SC members:The ISOC-PR Board of Directors passed the following resolution (see original attached) during its regular monthly meeting held on Tuesday, February 18, 2022:" Serve this to notify that in a meeting held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., the [ISOC Puerto Rico] Board of Directors approved to request the ChAC Steering Committee the initiation of a recommendation to advice ISOC to provide live interpretation in different languages both written and spoken in their working committees. This way, we can be more inclusive and transparent in the processes. Currently, the primary working language is English. For example, there are many Chapters whose language is Spanish, and their representation is limited in these committees. We ask engineer Eduardo Díaz, empowered by this Board of Directors, to submit to the ChAC Steering Committee the necessary recommendation and proposal as requested on behalf of the Puerto Rico Chapter. The advice is for the benefit of the best interests that support the vision of an Internet for all."There are two motivations behind this request:ChAC Charter section 5.5 indicates: "The composition of the Steering Committee shall respect the principles of geographical diversity and language diversity." Our opinion is that language diversity in the ChAC-SC does not exist since all its proceedings must be in English ONLY.  ISOC Bylaws indicates in its Article VIII – Section 4 Official Language: "English shall be the official language of the Society" This makes sense for the corporation itself as the working language for the organization. However, it should not be required for working groups, committees, and other components that include global chapter volunteers where English is not their primary language. Moreover, one language it is contradictory to ISOC's Vision of the Internet for everyone. Please confirm receipt of this communique.Eng.
