[Chapter-delegates] Sad loss of Lajos Bálint

Dear Michiel,

This is really very sad news. We all will missLajos, one of the shapers 
of the academic networks in Europe. He contributed a lot to the

development of InternetinEastern Europe even before the Berlin wall 
failed down and the import of US networktechnology there was forbidden 
by COCOM.

I remember his answer during the Trieste RARE meeting, when I asked 
himand dr.Bacony why they are developing X.25 systems as they can be get 
on the shelves, and he answered "we

can not purchase them". In that time X.25 was one of the vehicle to 
carry IP over if you were not in possession of leased line.He was 
pioneering the Internet and the academic networks.

Dr.Lajos Balint was a member of ISOC Slovenia for several years and we 
will miss him!

All our consolations go to his family.
