Olga,
the NomCom is not obliged to passively wait for nominations. Outreach to
appropriate communities is encouraged. Deadline extensions if you see that
the pool is failing are always an option. NomCom members have enough
exposure that any invitation they extend will reach far and wide. The
responsibility for a flawed result cannot be laid at the Society's nor at
the members and allies' feet. There is time to fix this if ther is the
will. And certainly all measures must be taken in the next cycle, in order
to avoid a repetiion.
