[Chapter-delegates] Chapter Toolkit needs just a few more supporting chapters before tuesday...

Hi Alexander,

As mentioned in previous mail I don’t have experience using of most of the tools so have to rely on others experience.

Of course secure and free tools that complement each other would be very beneficial for our chapter. I also realize that some tools can be used by some chapter more than by others.

Also since some of the mentioned tools are intended for better chapter/board management maybe you could also look on more integration with ISOC membership portal and support of non-latin scripts ( we use Georgian – so support of Unicode will be essential)

I hope the project will be supported by ISOC management and we will be able to discuss how to move forward in more detail in separate thread.

BR,

Sandro

Hi Alexander, Dear All,

Georgian chapter uses WordPress theme developed through Chapter Toolkint project for ISOC.GE<http://ISOC.GE> website. We are happy with it, though wish it had more flexibility in formatting.

We would like also to use e-mail services from this project.

So on behalf of our chapter I would like to support development hosting and e-mail platform to become more reach and flexible.

Regarding video collaboration tool – we would like to have something as user friendly as Zoom.
Today our chapter uses Zoom’s for few meeting a years. Zoom is also used for several other projects. It fully satisfies our need and we would be great to have something as convenient as it is.
Number of online participants is usually up to ten. We pay $15 month and would be happy to avoid that using free service, but at the same time as convenient as it is it.

As for other services – they all seem useful but I don’t really know how user friendly are they and how often are we going to use them.
So maybe someone could help me to understand these tools better and what is meant under integration.

CryptPad Zero knowledge realtime collaborative editor - why not to used Google Docs Spreadsheet
FileSender Sharing large files - why not to use WeTransfer
Mailtrain A self hosted newsletter application ( never used anything like that)
SignServer Create digital signatures on documents - I don’t think we may need this (never used anything like that)
Taiga An Agile, Free and Open Source Project Management Tool - may have to learn it first ( use Excel for smaller projects we usually have)
EtherCalc Web spreadsheet application - why not use Google Docs Spreadsheet
CIVS Internet voting service to conduct polls - may be useful for us. (we use anther free voting service)
Orbeon Forms Build and deploy web forms using W3C Xforms - why not to use Google (never used anything like that)
Polis AI powered sentiment gathering platform - don’t know how it works (never used anything like that)
Searx A meta search engine that avoids the search bubble – don’t know why is it has to be integrated.

In summary:
We would like to use : Wordpress theme, web hosting, E-mail hosting
Video conferencing – if it some options like: private rooms, audio, chat, recording, support of mobile platforms.
Voting

Some mailing list software – particularly if it has integration online database / spreadsheet and some Mail merge features (Yet another mail merge ad-on for Gmail)

BR,

Sandro

Hello all,

On the 5th of June I sent a mail to this list detailing the progress of the Chapter Toolkit project.

It was also an invitation to support the project by sending a reply mail, because without enough support from chapters, the project will not get proper funding and therefore unfortunately come to an end.

Many chapters have answered positively, but...

we need a few more to be safe.

So please,

Reply to this email, and state that on behalf of your chapter you wish the project to continue and support our request for funding.

We will then forward your message to the Chapter Advisory Council.

You can find our request for funding at https://internetsociety.info/docs/201806-Chapter_Toolkit_Project_CHAC.pdf

Thank you!!!

Met vriendelijke groet,
Kind regards
