[Chapter-delegates] FYI - ISOC statement about on Internet blocking measures in Catalonia, Spain

Dear colleagues,

I'd like to share with you a couple of facts that may help you to make your
own opinion on the sensible issue of the Spanish censorship in Catalonia.
Please, find attached a sample of the notifications that the Spanish police
is sending ordering to shut down or block web sites in this case under the
.cat domain. As these URLs may not be accessible in the following hours,
please find also attached a copy of their current content. A number of them
are not about the organisation of the referendum, but to express political
views and some of them just to collect signatures of support and pictures.


A couple of days ago there were about 30 sites affected, yesterday about
140 and Today there may be more than 200.


Let me take this opportunity to express my full respect to everybody’s
opinions, but with a special reference to the position and decision of Dr.
Andreu Vea and his colleagues Miquel Huguet and Joan Batet that honours
them.


In spite of the hopes we have here in Catalonia to face the challenge of
the following days with a big smile and positive attitude, we’re terribly
concerned about the real risk that our president is arrested and the right
of people to vote not respected. Internet censorship and the violation of
ISOC principles is just a sample of what is happening here.
