The AMS system is hardly perfect and it's showing its age. But it is somewhat
usable, and we've (more or less) gotten used to it's quirks. I do worry that the
cure will be worse than the problem. I agree with Maye that any replacement
should be "light", not too many pretty bells and whistles, please. For me,
"Convivial" is optional. :)
Nearly all of the complaints about AMS i've seen so far have been about the
messaging/email sub-system. Yes it's clunky, formatting a message is what takes
a lot of time. But if the cure were like "Connect", i'd avoid using that too.
Since, we use AMS messaging usually as a way of emailing notices out to a
definitive list of chapter members, i'm wondering why a straightforward band-aid
fix such as allowing the upload of a pre-formatted *.doc or other format file
hasn't been tried?
Just wondering,
WYn
P.S. And while i don't think one can "manage" social media channels from within
an AMS, it would help if ISOC's communications were more social media friendly.
To be fair, many of the articles and blogs now have a graphic or photo, so that
a share on social media doesn't just display the logo or a thumbnail pic of the
author. But, sometimes i still have to reformat before sharing an article from
ISOC's official FB page, so it doesn't look too plain and boring (even if the
actual content or copy is very well-written and interesting.)
