Good evening,
Isoc should be active in this area and take advantage of its global reach
to bridge the gap betwen law and techology.
What we should look at is:
1. Make sure information on valid data protection frameworks reaches all
sides and less developed areas;
2. Provide guidance on developing tools to satisfy legal requirements.
This is not the case yet even in Europe. Data breach information /
notification tools are missing and compliance is not taken seriously as we
are getting near the implementatoion deadline of new European General Data
Protection Regulation in May 2018. Same with security breach notification
tools. Data protection and security are closely interconnected in many
cases.
What we should be heading towards, is a global standard in data protection
regulation. Otherwise international data transfers are going to be looked
at as perilous while they are the basis of the global digital economy.
