I don't think that this list is the best place to exchange general political
views, but I will say that I agree with Dave, in the sense that the US is
not authoritarian at the domestic level. But I agree with Alan that the US
imposes its views on other countries and on the citizens of other countries.
I refer to this as "imperialism". Some think that that is OK, or even a good
thing, others disagree.

Correct. There are numerous instances of the US imposing its views in
various international forums, and forum-shopping when they fail to impose
their view in a particular forum.
