We agree, thank you Klaus for your concise and accurate points of order :)

I believe that in my original message I explained that as Chapters, I do not believe that there is any problem for us to have a good working relationship directly with the ISC. ISOC-ZA do, with respect!

As per Klaus, there is a problem for them to "tow the line" on ISOC global principles, so it's not appropriate they become a 'chapter' yet, and imho that is something that they are legally constrained with and in a government like mine I can understand that :P took me ten years of freedom fighting to get competition in telecoms here… and we're not China.

ISOC-ZA is also a partner of the ISPA in South Africa and imho the similar organisation in China carries the name "Internet Society", it just seems to me to be culturally appropriate.

I do feel that the Internet Industry Associations do not have as good global co-ordination as we do for end users, it's one of the great benefits of ISOC global although as Dave Burstein writes:

> Most of us think the U.S. government isn't as authoritarian as the Chinese one, myself included. So we don't think of being so close to the U.S. government (and corporations) as an issue.

What? The US government is not as authoritarian as the Chinese one?

My emails responding to Vint about how WIPO managed to get most of the worlds governments to join is only the tip of the iceberg. Vint says he top posts because all the email clients prefer it that way, well the email clients are made in the US so surely ISOC in the US should be teaching these software companies how to make email clients?

Okay - this is a bit rich - I do think that Zuma Trumps them all…

Anyhow, as per my original email, I really think we all have our eyes on the right balls, those balls represent openness, inclusion, freedom, and our missions are mainly around education. As long as no-one is as Vint put it "usurping the good name of the Internet Society for their own purposes" (and if anything I think ISOC global is guilty of this in my geography), let's focus on full marks rather than trade marks since we are a community organisation :)

Viva ISC :)

Sincerely,

Alan

btw, ZTE - i.e. the Chinese Government - are digging up my sidewalk this week (yes, I am in South Africa), in order to lay fibre. Seems like having a good relationship with ISC may be better for your Chapter than it is for ISOC global :P
