ISOC could actually register its trademark in some 97 countries at once, under the Madrid Protocol, see:

If ISOC’s IP lawyers have not yet considered this possibility, then maybe it would be worth looking at.

My personal opinion is that we should register when chapters emerge and the chapter should own it. Also when strategic reasons come about. Otherwise we'd have to spend $1000 per year × 193 UN nations (+ a few extra) + misc costs... and I'd rather see that go on local education, connectivity, consumer protection...
